Really loved this read Tim! As a former colleague at MacLaren McCann, I didn’t recall you started BlogTO in parallel. I love the chutzpah and fearlessness. Many would have backed down when hearing Torontoist launched or jumped at the security of a Toronto Star backed Toronto.com … you bet on yourself … and rightly so. Well done! P.s. Oscar is jonesing for some ping-pong!
Really enjoyed reading this, Tim. The way you walk us through the story is great and I find it really cool to see how the mid-2000s Toronto internet looked (as someone a few years late to that).
This post reminds me of the Nirvanna the band the show the movie in how it’s Toronto-focused and a bit nostalgic. I loved that movie and I’m really liking your posts so far.
P.S. I lol’d at this: “Now Magazine, the publication whose audience and advertisers we were going after, was congratulating us.”
Thanks for the feedback, Jared. Glad you liked this one. Context is so important, so I do try to paint a picture of what was going on in the media landscape and in Toronto during my posts.
Small correction: I posted the VS. At Latvian House article; (I haven't realized I had the very first post on BlogTo all these years later). Catherine was a photographer from what I remember.
Thanks for reading this and leaving me this feedback. The article has been updated. And, even more importantly, thanks for believing in the site way back then and being one of the original 10 on the team. To be honest, I couldn’t remember what the first post was either, so I had to consult the Wayback Machine and cross-referenced the site archives for the info. I'm not sure why the byline was incorrect, but I recall a technical issue at some point that caused byline problems, so that may have been it.
The irony of: “Eye didn’t seem to be paying attention”
